Now here’s my problem: where can I get proper prints of these images? (No standard prints, no exposures on colour paper with a corresponding colour cast!) Surely there must be image processors that can expose genuine black-and-white photographic paper? Unfortunately, I have neither the space nor the time to set up my own darkroom.
As a slide photographer who also takes plenty of black-and-white slides, I tested two options and had a 20x20cm quasi-baryta print produced using
Monochrom and a print on baryta paper produced using
Photo Studio 13, both from the same file. The print from Photo Studio 13 is undoubtedly good and will likely remain stable in the long term.
What is interesting, however, is that the print from Monochrom turned out so well that many mistook it for the baryta print. In terms of sharpness, the print is slightly superior, probably because the third lens comes into play during the exposure; the camera lens, scanner lens and printer lens might just be one lens too many.
Without having decided for myself which method I will prefer in future, I must admit that the print at 50
