PhotoWerkBerlin
He hasn’t gained his knowledge from books, but has tried everything out for himself – and has been doing so for over 30 years. It began with a darkroom in Aachen, and his passion for the finest black-and-white process led him to Berlin. His client list reads like a ‘who’s who’ of international photographic art. In this three-hour lecture, he will explain the process of black-and-white film development to the highest standards. He begins with an overview of all currently used development processes (including for colour material) for analogue film today, offering a brief historical review and an outlook on future developments.

The following questions will also be discussed:
How do I find a good lab for my films? The advantages of processing your own film! What do I need to bear in mind? Which developer is best for me? How do I properly archive negatives or contact sheets immediately after development? What should I bear in mind if I want to scan my films in the best possible way?
Jochen Rohner will uncover and eliminate the often-overlooked sources of problems in the analogue process. He will present the knowledge he has acquired over decades using practical examples in his lab on Ackerstraße, shedding light on the mysteries of analogue photography. He will also be able to address examples provided by participants. A unique opportunity for anyone wishing to benefit first-hand from the tips and tricks of one of the few masters of this craft.
For a maximum of 10 participants. Suitable for anyone who has already spent time in a darkroom and wishes to deepen their knowledge. Also suitable for photographers who wish to work exclusively with colour film and gain an overview of analogue development processes.
