Hello,
I’m planning to try my hand at producing a few black-and-white enlargements myself. Of course, as a student, I don’t have the spare cash to set up an enlarger at home, nor do I have the necessary ‘darkness’. But fortunately, that’s what your rental darkroom is for. Would it be possible to get a brief introduction to enlarging? So far, my knowledge is purely theoretical...
Best regards,
Andrej

Andrej,
Unfortunately not, because we’ll have to close the rental studio if we can’t find anyone to take it over.
However, there are some excellent organisations in Berlin that offer this service.
Particularly worth mentioning are the VHS Kreuzberg, Tempelhof, Neukölln, Imago Fotokunst and others.
If I’ve forgotten anyone here, please feel free to add to the list yourself!
Best regards,
Mirko
PS
If nobody takes over the rental darkroom, we’ll probably run a modified version from October onwards.
It will be more expensive per hour, but the equipment will be better and there will be just ONE workstation, which will be open for 8 hours a day.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. As far as I understand, the lab is still open. Is there much room for error when printing on your own for the first time? Having read up on it in detail, I don’t imagine it to be that difficult and feel confident I could do it all by myself.
But you’ve got the experience :)
Best regards
Andrej

Hi Andrej,
I used to develop my own photos too, but I’ve since discovered the joy of black-and-white slides. Back then, my local camera shop showed me how the process worked. I was familiar with the procedure, so I set to work on it myself at home when my parents gave me an enlarger for Christmas. It does take a bit of effort, though, to get the results you want.
I reckon that once you’ve got to grips with the process, you’ll be able to work your way into it yourself.
Best regards
Christoph
