Thanks for the tips, BUT: 1. According to FOTOIMPEX, CHM400 is a multilayer film. HP5+ is single-layer! You can actually see the difference when the CHM comes out of the developer and the base has a slightly pinkish tinge. 2. I’d forgotten that! Sorry

Ha ha, very funny! The situation is actually as follows. 1. HP5+ is a licensed name owned by Ilford. So when FOTOIMPEX says CHM400 = HP5+, that’s a contradiction in terms. Legally speaking, too. If I were to start imitating trademarked products today and selling them under the same name, I reckon I’d get into quite a bit of trouble. It’s like buying a bottle of Coke only to find there’s vodka inside. So what sort of film is this, and how do I develop it?

Thanks for the compliment. The fact is that none of the sites mentioned, including this forum with its search function, contains a production schedule for the film.

Hello Well, I don’t know if it’s 100 per cent HP5+ – and I don’t really care either. Because the film works exactly the same as HP5, and the development times are identical too. If you don’t believe it or don’t want to believe it, it’s simply your own fault, because it works exactly the same for me. Hmm, just out of interest: what does the colour of the antihalation coating or the base have to do with the number of layers, and where did you get the information about the number of layers in HP5+? For my part, I’ve always developed CHM400 using HP5 timings, have never had any surprises with it, and can’t see any difference visually. Whether the film is then still ‘100% identical’ or not is of little concern to me. Perhaps you could try developing it using HP5 parameters for a while, and if you encounter any problems, you can post here again. Philipp

Hi Nassifutz (great name, by the way!), I’m not sure the HP5+ is a single-layer film, even though I don’t have any precise information on that. As far as I understand it, the CHM 400 Pro uses the original HP5+ emulsion from the original manufacturer, though perhaps on a different base, which doesn’t necessarily mean it’s any worse. Therefore, the film reacts in the same way, looks the same and develops in the same way. Regards, Taher
