Despite all the dangers and pirates of the South China Sea, our new Herkules mega lamp stand has made it all the way to Hamburg. It also brought the new ADOLIGHT umbrella softboxes with it. These simply slot into the mount of a lamp or flash in place of an umbrella and then act like a 100x100 cm softbox. The highlight: the reflector is built-in, just like a proper softbox, but everything can be folded back up in a single movement (just like an umbrella). Hi Mirko, Does the softbox have a price yet? And is it only suitable for cold light, or can it also handle a 300–600W modelling light? Regards, Martin

Hi Martin, Hopefully, the umbrella softbox will cost around €49 plus VAT. We’re still waiting for the customs bill, though. It’s always a question of whether they’ve classified it as textiles (30% duty) or photography studio equipment (6% duty) again. The other day, a customs officer tried to convince us that you could wear spare socks as a jumper, just so he could charge the higher rate... I would have loved to watch him get stuck with his head at the supposed neck end and not be able to get out again, but he didn’t go along with that in the end. I wouldn’t run 600 W through it long-term – they aren’t designed for that. On the other hand, a flash with a 600 W modelling light should also have 2000 WS of flash power, and you wouldn’t put something like that behind a 100 cm softbox at full power anyway. So it all sorts itself out somehow. 500 WS = 250 W modelling light = no problem = just the right power. Best regards, Mirko
