Hello everyone,
I’ve just opened the first pack of the paper mentioned above. One of the reasons I bought it was the advertised ‘280 gsm stock’.
However, once I had the first sheet in my hand, I couldn’t help but think of the (un)fortunate single-weight papers. I’m really disappointed with the feel of the paper. Have I misunderstood something?
Thanks for any advice

Perhaps there’s been a mix-up? For example, I was recently sent a pack of matt paper instead of glossy paper.

Rainer,
I’m afraid I can’t comment on that.
I really can’t understand why this base paper reminds you of a 90g base paper.
Whether glossy or matt – the base paper weight is the same; there’s no way you could mix them up.
There are slightly thinner mounts (Foma, Ilford) which weigh 180g, but even those are noticeably heavier than single weight.
The old 300g Polywarmton mount has not been available for two years.
However, the difference in weight is hard to detect as it is very slight.
What you’re holding in your hands is currently the heaviest baryta paper base on the global market.
Have you ever thought about mounting it?
Best regards,
Mirko

Hello everyone,
First of all, thank you for your replies. Here’s what happened: last week I was in Berlin for a conference and took the opportunity to pop into the shop. Until then, I’d only known the shop and its paper from the internet. I really liked the visual quality of the test prints on ADOX (shadows, tone, etc.), but I didn’t take the images out of the portfolio. Then, back at home... see above :)
To @Mirko: unfortunately, I don’t always manage to convey ironic exaggerations in emails; a smiley might have been useful. 90g paper is, of course, really in a different league. Perhaps I simply expected too much, but the direct comparison with a sheet of Kentmere VC Fineprint 190g did surprise me; the latter actually feels sturdier.
Perhaps I should pop a sheet of ADOX in and send it to you (in case there really was a mix-up)?
For now, have a lovely weekend

Rainer,
Why don't you use a letter scale to check?
Gast
Hi Anthony,
That was the first thing I did (using a pocket scales with a resolution of 0.01 g). Two pieces of ADOX and Kentmere of the same size weighed the same.
