Hi,
Does the ASA setting on the SC-14 flash cable actually do anything?
Regards, Thomas
Hi,
as no experienced F3 user has replied yet, I’ll have a go at answering from my memory: Although the F3 has a TTL cell for flash, the camera’s metering electronics for continuous light have no influence on the TTL flash metering (this was back in 1980). This also applies to the ISO setting on the camera. So you have to somehow tell the TTL flash metering system the ISO sensitivity, and this is done via the flash adapter.
Why only 25–400 ASA? That is simply the metering range, which, incidentally, also applies to the TTL flash function of the Nikon FE2 and the FA. In practice, this is entirely sufficient. Anyone who has used 1600 ASA film for TTL flash photography has, at the very least, caused some minor damage.
Best regards,
Stefan
