Hello,
I’m currently trying to limit myself to two films and, if possible, just one developer. Now that I can finally handle the entire process chain right through to the print myself, it just seemed necessary and sensible to me. As for the films, the choice has already been made: the Efke 50 and the Neopan 400, both in medium format, but also for 35mm, which I’m using less and less, though. That leaves the question of the developer... I’m currently toying with the idea of Tanol, but thought I’d better ask about your experiences before I start testing it myself...
I’m less concerned with development curves and times – I already have those, as the Moersch service leaves nothing to be desired (how convenient: both films require the same development time). Rather, I wanted to gather a few very general, and preferably entirely subjective, impressions of the image quality and the harmony between Tanol and the two films. I’m asking mainly because I get the impression that no one has really settled on these combinations yet — there might be a reason for that.
Incidentally, the Moersch website rates Efke+Tanol and Neo+Tanol as ‘only’ recommended, rather than ‘highly recommended’, which naturally makes me curious as to exactly which factors are preventing them from achieving top marks. ...that would, of course, be more of a question for Mr Moersch himself, but he does read this from time to time... ;)
Many thanks,
Best wishes for the rest of the Easter holidays,
Nils.

Hi Nils,
Tanol has become my go-to developer. I’ve already developed a few rolls of Efke KB 50 with it. I’m really pleased with the results. I didn’t particularly like Neopan 400 in Tanol. The film itself isn’t bad, but there are better films for Tanol. The HP5+ is unbeatable in Tanol.
