Please help!
Until recently, I was using Orwo film and Calbe powder developer. I’ve now bought a 30-metre roll of Ilford FP4+, which expired in 2002.
After several test runs, I simply cannot get the entire emulsion off the film. I increased the development time from 8 minutes to 18 – no difference. Then I prepared the Ilford ID-11; first I developed it for 6 minutes as per the instructions, then for 12 minutes; still nothing. I also developed a second film (not from the roll) at the same time, and there is no difference here either. I’m at my wits’ end. Why won’t this emulsion come off? You can see a result, but somehow everything is behind a fog. I’ve never had this problem before.
Please help!!!

This might be a really silly question – but have you secured it properly?

Hi Michael,
According to the data sheet, the FP4+ doesn’t have a backing layer when used with KB, so it can only be a problem with the fixer or pre-exposure (fog). Take a piece of film and hold it up to the light in the fixer – without conducting any development. Then time how long it takes for the film to become clear.
