To start with, you could make something like this using a sturdy wooden frame or trough and some pond liner; you can get pond liner in quite large sizes for very little money at DIY stores.

Yes, I’ve thought of something like that too, but if I’m going to start building a great wooden frame, then perhaps I might as well make something proper? Maybe there are reasonably priced laboratory units available, or perhaps I could have one made to order.
