Hello Michael,
Could this possibly have something to do with the backing material?
Yes. If it’s a PET backing and a layer of ‘NC’ that’s too thin has been applied to the reverse side. Unfortunately, that was the case back then due to massive intervention by another reseller. Do they also tend to curl up along the long axis? When you enlarge them, do they show a distinct loss of light at the edges of the film? PET and an NC emulsion that’s too thin on the reverse side.
Stand barefoot in the darkroom, warm up by the heater well in advance, then you can do it without flash. Or don’t bother. In my experience, it makes absolutely no difference if you unroll it slowly enough.
The flashes don’t seem to have made any difference.
The films have always been pretty good in terms of antihalation. And they’ve apparently got even better despite other (new) problems.
But Mirko will explain all that when he finally lets the ‘facts’ speak for themselves. I’m really looking forward to that too.
Best regards,
Franz
