Senen
Aloha,
Can anyone help me with my problem?
The focus ring on my 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C. FD lens is sticking and can only be adjusted from 0.45m to 2m; it grinds as if there’s dirt under it.
I’ve already tried loosening the screws on the bayonet ring, but I don’t have the right tool – I only have a 1.4mm watchmaker’s tool, which is still too big for the screws. And to be honest, I don’t really feel confident doing it myself.
Does anyone know of an affordable repair service, or would any of you be able to fix it – for a fee, of course?
The camera shops here in Berlin that I’ve asked so far don’t want to or can’t repair it and say I should send it in to Canon, but that would take weeks and cost me a fair bit.
I’d be grateful for any replies!
Cheers and best regards
Sen
PS: At Foto Matz, the technician said I could easily fix something like this myself. It would be expensive if I had them do it. Hmph...

Hi Sen,
When it comes to tinkering with cameras, I’m only familiar with Gölitz and Pentacon M42 models :)
But have you tried the shop Ostkreuz (Prügel, Neue Bahnhofstr. 6, 10245 Berlin)? I know they also deal with Canon there, and the prices have been ‘reasonable’ so far whenever I’ve needed anything.
Another option is to buy a decent set of watchmaker’s screwdrivers – my experience (which isn’t all that extensive) tells me it’s worth it. And the focusing mechanism is easy to take apart too. It’s usually a fine-threaded and a coarse-threaded ring that you simply unscrew.

One repair shop with a pretty good reputation is Marland, located on Handjerystraße in Schöneberg (Friedenau, near Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz underground station).
They’ll even fix an old Fujica for you, so they should be able to sort out a lens like that as well.

And a good tool shop is, for example, Wiha.
