And what do Cubans use to take photos?
Probably not digital cameras.
I, for one, would definitely be on the lookout for Cuban films.
I suppose they might come from Russia or China?

Cuban films. Er... of course. It’s a complicated story. There actually used to be a Cuban film production company. After the revolution, they naturally wanted to set up their own production of X-ray film as quickly as possible, because establishing a functioning healthcare system was a top priority for Fidel. Unfortunately, production in the factory set up for this purpose never really got off the ground because it was repeatedly sabotaged by the CIA. You see, thanks to their spies, the US knew full well that the brilliant socialist engineers had an absolutely revolutionary film (CIA code name: ‘Red-X’) in the pipeline. And because they feared that this film would have meant a revolution in aerial photography (espionage!), they were desperate to prevent Cuba from producing it and supplying it to the Soviet Union. It turned out as it was bound to... After CIA saboteurs had contaminated the factory with radioactive material three times in the space of a few months, thereby destroying huge quantities of top-quality film stock, Fidel was forced to cancel the project. Fortunately, there were still the socialist brother nations, who were happy to supply Cuba with film stock in exchange for cigars and rum. Since capitalism has taken hold in Russia and China, however, Cuba has been importing its supplies from other sources. There are two films to choose from: Bolivarpan (100 ISO black-and-white film) and Chavez-X (400 ISO black-and-white), and you can get them on every street corner in photography-mad Cuba, as the stuff arrives by the container load from Venezuela in exchange for Cuba’s highly trained doctors. Unfortunately, there’s no colour film, but why would there be! Every child in Cuba knows that colour is a bourgeois concept! Oh, and one more tip for your trip to Cuba: don’t forget the red filter under any circumstances!
