Problem when rewinding ADOX CHS 35mm film

Do you have any old or unused ADOX film you could possibly use for some experiments? Just open the camera back when the problem occurs and see what’s wrong. If the film itself is too thick for the camera, you should encounter similar problems when loading and winding the film. Perhaps the perforations on the edges of the film aren’t very precise, or the film canister is faulty, causing the film to become crooked whilst rewinding.

Herve, I think the films might only be partially scratched by the ADOX. The same goes for the Swema films, and it’s not down to the dosages, but to the films themselves. Best regards from Kiev Oleksander

Hervé Can you see a fault with the ADOX cassettes? I think they might be smaller than the Ilford ones inside, or perhaps the cotton at the end of the cassette isn’t sitting properly in the cassette. Paul

I’ve also had problems with scratches on these films. I’ve since switched to Ilford films and haven’t had any more problems. I’m also using Fuji now. I don’t think the ADOX cassettes are very good.

What’s the deal? Are the clear films OK? I don’t think they always are. I’ve been using Efke (now ADOX) for a few years and I feel the quality of the films is getting worse year on year. At first, I thought the posts about scratches were just people being picky, but I’ve actually found scratches on mine too. Efke (manufactured in Croatia) scratches that stock, and the cassettes don’t seem to be of the best quality either. I shall buy only bulk film next time. I used these films even back when they were German ADOX in the 1960s, and Efke is still using the same machines. Roland
