Hello forum members,
Is there now a split-grade setting for the Vario Classic?
Kind regards,
Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang,
The parameter set for Amaloco Varimax isn’t working? It should actually be a very similar emulsion.
Best regards,

Hi Franz,
Thanks for the tip!
I wanted to give Vario Classic a go as a replacement for Kodak Baryt, which has sadly been discontinued!
Best regards,
Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang,
I wouldn’t swear to it when it comes to Baryt. It may (but doesn’t necessarily) behave differently from Varimax PE.
What’s more, the cast might play a trick on you; Vario Classic is likely to scatter a bit more these days than the larger casts of the past.
Best regards,
Franz

I expose ADOX Vario Classic Baryt from the "roll promotion" using a split grade as Ilford Multigrade FB Warm Tone (+0.3 f +1.2 g). I perform the development with Calbe N120 for 3 minutes.
According to my tests, the paper has extremely soft contrast. With pure magenta exposure (gradient 5), it still has a copying range of approx. ISO R 75.
Let’s see if the paper performs a bit harder in a few weeks.
Best regards
Klaus

Hello Wolfgang,
The Splitgrade preset for Agfa PE works quite well with Adox Vario Classic. Of course, some fine-tuning is still required.
Best regards!
