Hi,
I’m looking to try my hand at so-called ‘hip shots’ in the hustle and bustle of the street, so I’m after a powerful wide-angle lens that fits the Exa 1 c. As the cheapest camera with a light well, the Exa seems to me to be quite suitable for such an experiment. Will the Zeiss-Jena Flektogons with M42 threads for the Praktika, which are available in abundance at low prices on eBay, fit, or are there any incompatibilities? Does anyone know more?
Regards,
Jü

Hello Jan,
The Flektogons you mentioned fit the Exa without any problems – at least the 35mm one works fine for me. The only issue, due to their design, is with the long focal lengths – you can expect some vignetting in the upper part of the frame. The extent of this effect also depends on the lens design.

Thanks, I’ll go and have a look for a 2.8/20 Flektogon with a Praktica M42 thread.

Hello,
Well, first of all, I’m surprised that the Exa 1c has an M42 thread. Until now, I’d only seen the ones with the Exakta bayonet mount, like on the Varex models. But if it’s M42, then an M42 lens will fit. However, you should be careful with the 20mm Flektogon; depending on the design, it might protrude too far into the mirror box, preventing the mirror from lifting up. It would then only work with manual mirror lock-up, and as far as I know, the Exa doesn’t have that. You’d end up getting annoyed.
Regards, Sven.
