Hello, Yesterday I developed my prints using ADOX Warm Tone paper. I put them in my Amaloco 6006 paper developer, which is actually more of a cool-tone developer. The paper now looks a bit greenish. It has a slight hint of green. If you hold a piece of white paper up to the ‘white’ edge, you can see that the edge has a reddish tinge. As I prepared all the baths fresh, kept them all at around 20 degrees and also rinsed them at 20 degrees afterwards, I don’t understand the reddish tinge at the edge. It’s only noticeable when you hold a piece of white paper up to it. Could this be because the paper is a warm-tone paper? I’ve only ever used cool-tone paper before?? Regards Thorsten

Hi Thorsten, What do you mean by ‘white paper’? A different type of paper, or an unexposed, fixed sheet from ADOX? I also use PWT in a rather cool-toned developer (Eukobrom) and it takes on a very slight yellow-brown tinge – more brown than yellow. I get this reddish appearance with fogged paper! Are you sure your lighting isn’t fogging the paper? (Have you done a fog test?) Otherwise, just take a piece of paper out in complete darkness and fix it without exposing or developing it. Provided the whole pack isn’t already fogged, you’ll have a control strip showing the paper’s base colour. But if the comparison strip is also completely white and your paper still looks reddish, I’d really start worrying about fogging. Regards Sebastian

I’ve also noticed a slightly greenish tint in the paper when using Ilford Multigrade developer with Adox Polywarmtone, if I develop for about 3–4 minutes. However, with a development time of 6–7 minutes, the paper is ‘completely neutral’! (And has a huge dynamic range!) Simon

Hello, The pink tint might also be due to insufficient fixing; there was a thread on this topic in this forum back in November, titled ‘Pink undertone in Polywarmtone’. The PW needs to be fixed for quite a long time. Best regards, Heinrich
