Hello forum members!
I still have a set of CALBE lith developers in my supplies (bought from Brenner: white bottles with red lettering, Part A: 500 ml, Part B: 250 ml), which I’d like to give a go. However, as I’m cautious with chemicals and don’t know whether the CALBE lith developer is similarly ‘non-toxic’ to the Moersche one – i.e. free of formaldehyde – here are my questions:
1) Does anyone have any experience with the CALBE lith developer, and if so, what was it like?
2) To the chemists (Franz, are you reading this!?):
On the bottle of Part A there is this black cross on a red background (or is it the other way round?), next to it the letter combination "Xi" and the following list of ingredients:
Contains 2–5% 1,4-dihydroxybenzene and 0.5–2% sodium hydroxide
Well, you might say I should leave the stuff alone if I don’t know what I’m dealing with. But: I’m always very careful anyway; I only dip my fingers in the lith developer whilst wearing latex gloves.
My question concerns any potentially harmful fumes, even at a processing temperature of 20 degrees, as I don’t have a permanently ventilated darkroom, but can only open the window from time to time.
Many thanks for your replies, best regards and a Happy New Year from Johannes.

Johannes,
The Lith developer is the same as MACO Lith (i.e. not the new Superlith, but the old version).
So it’s probably well over five years old by now ;)
I always recommend wearing gloves and ensuring the DUKA is well ventilated.
No matter which Lith developer you use.
Best regards,
Mirko
