On the subject of ‘hobbyist kit’: forget it. Your Kaiser plastic camera will outlive you, provided you don’t drop it; it’s perfectly well-built and does exactly what it’s supposed to.

Well, assuming someone wants more light with KB even when the aperture is working properly, changing the condenser would by no means be nonsense, as it simply concentrates the same amount of light onto a smaller area. There’s no getting round that.

The name itself suggests that KB insert masks are advantageous when masking KB. However, the question here was whether they cause a loss of brightness due to ‘the light diffraction of the variable masking strips’. So I’ll just pass

The topic of “hobby equipment” was raised by none other than the OP himself. And that makes me wonder where a Kaiser is supposed to be any more “professional” than an old F30.
It simply belongs to a different generation of “hobby equipment”.
There is no doubt that a hobbyist can work well with “hobby equipment”.
