It might be a minor thing, but I miss the coated negative cloth from the FOTOIMPEX range
Will it be back in stock? Any alternatives (coated cloths at a similar price?)
Best regards

Stavro,
I’m really enjoying the microfibre cloths from Aldi Süd and Lidl – the soft, dense-pile ones, measuring about 30x30 cm, are great for cleaning negatives, camera bodies, lenses and camera mirrors...

Stavros,
The reason this cloth is no longer available is precisely that cloths with a coating are no longer available at a similar price, because nowadays everyone uses these microfibre cloths.
We do stock a very high-quality product from Delta1, a specialist in photographic equipment from the USA.
Otherwise, I can offer you the famous Ilford cloth – it’s very good, but unfortunately your second criterion (price) isn’t just not met, it’s downright insulted...
:)

Is there any reason not to use microfibre cloths?

Emil,
In principle, no.
They just shouldn’t leave lint behind, as those cheap household cloths sometimes do, and of course they aren’t damp. A limescale stain that could be removed using the moisture from an antistatic cloth will prove stubborn with a microfibre cloth.
On the other hand, they absorb grease better.

Thanks for your replies,
The negative cloth was a bit special in that I let myself be swayed by the price of the ‘famous Ilford cloth’ and am currently using it, but I still can’t get my negative as clean as I can with the negative cloth with a coating. The suspense during development now includes the question: ‘Will it be lint-free, or where has the little speck hidden itself?’ :) . Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but with the one with a coating, dust and lint weren’t an issue...
In any case: thanks again for the info!
Best regards
Stavros
