The time has come – the big day is here.
On Friday, the Vario Classic 30.5 metre / 85 metre reel will be rolling in
So if you haven’t received a firm order confirmation by email yet, please do drop us a line straight away so we can quickly pack a reel onto Santa’s sleigh before he sets off.
Best regards,
Mirko

... now that’s what I call ENLARGING! 30.5 METRES wide
;-)
I wonder how powerful that opal lamp must be?
Best regards,
Ronald
MirkoBoeddecker
...it should of course be 'cm'...
You could perhaps use the
Adolight 4500 L for exposure

Stagirit
A lovely old horizontal camera like that has a negative stage with a diagonal of almost 2 metres.
I can still clearly remember playing with my father’s when I was a child. He even took a photograph with it once and developed it on the kitchen floor.
The Selektron only ever went up to A1+.

Hmm. I don’t really think 80-metre-wide rolls are very nice, though. I ordered that roll back then for other reasons.
Great to hear it’s on its way!

The rolls have arrived.
Unfortunately, they’re a right faff to pack because there aren’t any boxes that fit them.
I’ll probably be cutting and trimming here until midnight to make two boxes fit, in the hope that everything can go out tomorrow so that a few of Grandma’s portraits will be ready in time for Christmas
Best wishes,
Mirko

Hi Mirko!
Great! My gran’s looking forward to the photos and I’m looking forward to the print!
Thanks for your tireless efforts right up to the very end!
Have a lovely third Sunday of Advent

Hi Mirko,
I finally managed to pick up the parcel today in the neighbouring village, quite a way from work (but I won’t be doing that again: having to take half a day off work more or less unannounced is pretty rubbish; could you please pass that on to your dispatch team? You lot moan too when you have to trek across Berlin to the post office.).
I left the paperwork for now, though; my Christmas photos have already ended up on PW and MCP :-)
Otherwise: Great that it all worked out so wonderfully! Now I just need to have a roll cassette made, and then I’ll be off with my homemade baryta. Start mentally preparing yourself for a repeat order towards the end of next year :-)
Best regards,
Franz

Hi Franz,
I’ll do that. But what went wrong this time?
In this case, I was the one handling the dispatch, and I really did my best to send all the rolls out as quickly as possible.
However, all the details had been entered by the girls beforehand, and you should actually have received an email notification containing exactly the same information as was prepared…
I just printed the invoice and stuck the postage label on it....
Driving halfway across town is a right pain. Just like picking up parcels or, now at Christmas time, constantly dealing with calendars that didn’t fit in the postbox..... You’ve got my full sympathy :-)
Best regards,
Mirko

Hi Mirko,
> to send all the reels as soon as possible.
That was exactly it :-) Your girls would have known that it would have suited me better if they’d been sent from the 27th onwards, whilst I was on holiday.
Oh well, never mind – with a bit of luck, it worked out in the end. Although there was a pretty high risk that the parcel would have been returned to you.
Best regards,
Franz

How do you change the title? It should read: "The rolls have arrived".
I’ve just found the three boxes on the stairs; the postman must have been really excited on Friday – three rolls in three boxes inside a cardboard box the size of a fridge.
It seems to me the packers have experience with roll goods – neatly cushioned with cardboard strips, double-wrapped, a sturdy roll core, wrapped in half a roll of Tesafilm (or is it Scotch tape?) – all things the Agfarians in Windhagen didn’t quite manage with the same attention to detail.
My third of the delivery has already been transferred to the Movocut; MCP and Vario Classic FB seem to get on well on the same spindle straight away; tomorrow I’ll run a few test prints to see if the paper is ready yet or if it wants to wait until Easter. Mirko, what’s your take on this?
The first sheet should be used for tests, as it gets used up quickly – the adhesive strip resists being forcibly removed, which triggers triboluminescence; a faint glow in the darkroom, naturally in white-green, not dark red. ;-)
The rotary cutter on the Sitte also copes well with the backing; the tear is a bit like a wafer, but that goes away once the blade has regained its (self-)sharpened state.
Glad it worked out, great commitment from everyone involved.
Mirko: Many thanks. There’s definitely no chance of getting any photos in time for Christmas; my grandmothers have also been gone for quite some time now and are therefore rather ungrateful recipients of my photography frenzy.
Oh, and if any of the co-orderers would like a Movocut cassette and are willing to collect it themselves from Bad Kreuznach > LET ME KNOW.
Otherwise, the remaining two will soon be off to the scrap dealer, which would be a shame. The catch: they weigh a good 40kg and are just under 1.80m long.

Hi Roman
I didn’t want to wait until Easter! Besides, I’ve got to work then too.
I made my first prints on the paper today. Looks good! :) I’ll be doing some lith printing tomorrow. I’m curious to see how it turns out.
How else is the paper likely to change as it matures? So far, I’ve only been using paper from the box!
@Mirko: Do you still have a roll in stock? I think I’m going to need more after all!
@Franz: Hello! Will we be ordering rolls again in the summer?
Happy Easter

Andreas,
Sometimes you have to write everything twice. Silly me.
>I didn’t want to wait until Easter!
It’s not that long to go now...
>I made my first prints on the paper today. Looks good!
Great.
>How else is the paper likely to change as it matures?
The emulsion stabilises, i.e. the gradation range shifts, probably expands a little further, and the speed changes; anyone working with an analyser will probably be rolling new index numbers regularly until Easter.
I quickly ran a few grey scales yesterday; preliminary results:
Filtering/Visible Steps/ISO-R
15M/8/120
100M/6/90
130M/5/75
100Y/14/210
130Y/16/240
So in terms of gradient, we’re currently ranging from just under 4 to ‘000’, as soft as hot butter. There’s still room for change there.
But: I did the evaluation yesterday when I was completely exhausted and in poor lighting, so I’d rather let some daylight hit the paper later and count again...
> So far, I’ve only been using paper from the box!
That can happen to you too; for example, if the manufacturer goes bust, clears the warehouse, then starts producing again and the goods are snapped up.
>@Franz: Hello! Shall we order rolls again in the summer?
I’ve still got 70m of Agfa MCP in the machine; I need to use that up first. :-)
>Happy Holidays

What gradient are you printing them at? <G>

Hi Mirko – Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year; regarding the roll paper – can you also supply rolls wider than 1.05 m?
Thanks, Frank Bauchspiess

Hi Roman,
You're right, the paper is very soft! But never mind!
Could it be that the emulsion is very soft too? The paper sticks cleanly to the cloth when dried hot. And it just won't come off at all! Will that improve by Easter? That doesn't happen with my Forte paper! So it must be down to the paper! And I don't want to keep having to redo it either!
Good light

Andreas,
>You’re right, the paper is very soft! But that’s no problem!
As I said, that’s bound to change.
>Could it be that the emulsion is very soft too? The paper sticks cleanly to the cloth when >dried hot. And it doesn’t want to come off at all!
I know what you mean; I had to use hardeners to get it off the cloth the day before yesterday too; the support survives it, but some fluff remains in the emulsion. You can wipe that off or polish it out, though – no big deal.
It should sort itself out – as it ages, the gelatin hardens and becomes cornified... a hardening bath might also help, e.g. Stabi instead of possibly using a wetting agent. I’ll give it a go next week.
> Will it get better by Easter? That doesn’t happen with my Forte paper! > So it must be down to the paper!
If I recall correctly, this has been a topic of debate here before.
> And I don’t want to just keep re-enacting it either!
How about dry screening or a stretching frame?
> Good light
See you soon. ;-)
