Hello,
Yesterday I got hold of 20 rolls of Agfa Ortho 25 Minox film, still in their original packaging, straight from the freezer of an old lab technician. They’ve all passed their expiry date and are from the same batch. Given the traceable storage conditions, I’m assuming they’ll produce at least satisfactory results.
Can anyone recommend exposure times and developer combinations for the Minox daylight camera?
Regards,
Marwan

Marwan,
The results should still be OK, as this film is quite hard-working and has been stored frozen.
You’ll probably get the best results with microfilm developers such as Neofin Doku or Technidol.
Kodak’s HC 110 could also produce good results, but I’m not familiar with this combination (only more modern Agfa microfilms sometimes come out quite well with it).
You can also develop the comparable Maco Ort 25 and ADOX Ort 25 in the ATM49 to produce decent grey tones, which would suit the intended purpose (fine-grained for the Minox). However, you won’t get a completely ‘enlargement-soft’ look with it.
Best regards,
Mirko

Hello Mirko,
Thank you for your quick reply. Am I to understand from what you’ve said that the ADOX and the Maco are similar to the Agfa Ortho in virtually every respect, and that one can safely use the same exposure times, with their overall performance being virtually identical?
Best regards,
Marwan

Hi Marwan,
No, you can’t assume that. They are different films with different development times (at least AgfaOrtho compared to Adox/Maco; the latter are said to be more similar).
The only thing all three films have in common is that the procedure for soft-washing is similar.
Have a go at asking Marcus (www.8x11film.com); he’s a Minox expert and will surely be happy to help you. He also works with Impex on trace products, so I’m not stirring up any competition here.
Best regards,
Franz
