Hello Andreas, According to Maco enthusiasts elsewhere on the internet—who are usually very well-informed—and an indirect confirmation from Uncle Hartmuth in Stapelfeld, the Maco film is a batch of Croatian film specially selected to meet Maco’s highest quality standards. Was that clear enough? Why do you think I’m trying here to bring Efke/ADOX distribution back to proper base films (=triacetate)? For black-and-white slides, the PET fuss might be nice, and it’s cheaper for the manufacturer too. But otherwise, it causes more problems than it’s worth. The films cost the same (or are significantly more expensive if ‘specially selected’), transporting the film is slightly more tricky, ‘light-piping’ occurs, the stuff curls like mad or has an unattractive soft gelatine coating on the back, roll films spring open on their own... None of it really suitable for B&W negative photography. Best regards, Franz

Franz, I’m well aware that Maco simply ‘rolls off the production line’ film from various manufacturers and simply relabels it (after a special selection process). As far as I know, however, there are a few films that are only available under the Maco label (IR, for example) and aren’t also stocked on the shelves as Efke or Ilford. Best regards, Andreas
