Hello! I bought a second-hand Paterson film tank a while ago. It came with two original Paterson film reels. My question is this: the reels fit 35mm film, but I’d also like to develop medium format film. People always say (at least that’s how I understand it) that the reels are adjustable. Is that true (am I just too clumsy to adjust them) or is there simply a trick to it!? I’ve already ruined the AP reel I’ve just received from FOTOIMPEX (the adjustable one) whilst trying to fit it onto this tube. Oh well, such is life. Hello, You twist the reels clockwise past the stop, then you can pull them apart and lock them back into place at the correct distance with a turn anti-clockwise. But without this ‘trick’, how do you actually get your KB films out of the reels again?? Regards

Simply twist the reel shafts against each other until you hear a click, then pull them apart and 'click' them back together. What do you mean by 'worn-out' A&P reels? They fit perfectly into Paterson tanks, or onto Paterson tubes. Exception: You have a really old Paterson tank (e.g. one of those with the transparent reels). Roman

Unbelievable! Thanks so much. I haven’t been able to use it yet (missing accessories). Great. I was too fussy here, but too radical with that blue AP reel. :D I don’t think it’s that old. The reels are opaque. Oh well, never mind. Now I’m almost happy...

Hi Sandmann, What do you mean by ‘silly AP reel’? AP reels are much nicer than Paterson reels, with their wider spool arms and those neat, shiny little stainless steel balls that don’t leave marks on the film (unlike the odd grey balls in the Paterson reels). Best regards, Heiko

That may well be. It just annoyed me that it didn’t work, and it annoys me now that it was all for nothing. :D
