Hello everyone,
I tried out a roll of Foma 100R black-and-white transparency film with the Foma development kit at the weekend. It all went smoothly and the film is really beautifully sharp and has great tonal gradation. Even without a filter, the sky comes out a pleasant dark shade.
Is it possible to influence the image tone with this setup? I find the film a bit too warm-toned and would prefer slightly more neutral greys and blacks.
Perhaps some additives from W. Moersch? For positive processing, I have the Finisher Blue. Or am I on the wrong track and the image tone can’t be influenced?
Best regards,
Andreas

Any alteration to the original chemical composition is unlikely to improve the result. Adding a finisher to the negative developer can lead to significant density loss. One possible approach is to bleach a well-rinsed slide using cold-tone re-development with a richer developer + FB.

Try toning your finished slides with selenium and/or gold toner.

Just a different question, as I’m planning to develop some Fomapan R 100 using the Foma reversal kit soon (the films are already exposed, and I’ve got the chemicals).
Did you carry out the process using agitation or rotation? If you used agitation, I’d be interested to know the agitation rhythm, as the instructions don’t give any specific details.

Hi,
I’ve done it. I stuck to my usual rhythm: continuously for the first minute, then twice every 30 seconds.
It seems to have worked – I’m certainly happy with the result.

Thanks for your reply. So, develop it in the same way as with Rodinal.

Hi Andreas,
I do think you can change the colour tone. Why not try using a Kalton or neutral-tone positive developer as a secondary developer? After all, during secondary development, you can’t develop more silver than is left after bleaching.
