Hi, just a quick question.
I’ve just bought a Kinax II for €10 at a car boot sale.
I had a go at the mechanics yesterday evening and now everything’s running smoothly and is clean again. The lenses are clear. The aperture is dry and moves freely. The long exposures of more than 1/25 of a second seem to be getting out of hand.
I’ve also prepared and loaded a reel of 620 film straight away.
Does anyone here know this brand?
Here are the camera’s details:
Kinax II (6x9 cm)
Manufactured from around 1940 by Boyer in Paris
Lens: Saphir 1:4.5, 105mm
Shutter: B, 1–1/350 + working self-timer,
(I’m not expecting any photographic miracles, though)
Regards
Marcus

Sounds like a real pity buy :) I don’t think I’d ever be tempted to do something like that, but I think it’s very noble … have fun!

Yes, ‘pity buy’ does sum it up rather well.
I like these old photographic relics. These cameras often look good because of their chrome-plated mechanisms.
And usually, after a few drops of oil, the mechanism works again.
I finished the exposure for the first roll of film yesterday; let’s see if I’ve got any usable negatives.
I’d like to find a decent 4x5 at the flea markets here around Toulouse.
So far, I’ve bought the following at flea markets:
Zenit 35mm (as new) €5 > Pictures flawless, Kodak Bullseye €1 > Also very nice negatives, Mamiya TE (unfortunately faulty) €5 > I’ll keep the lens.

I have to admit, I still prefer a camera like this to a plastic one from China. Stopped down to f/8 or f/11 in good light, they often produce astonishing results. Or you might discover certain qualities in them, such as a silky-smooth contrast. It’s really quite enjoyable.
The 4x5" format isn’t very common round here, but you can still find the odd one or two in 9x12. Voigtländer might be a bit pricier, but you can still come across a KW patent every now and then – one that’s so slim you can just slip it into your coat pocket.
Regards, Sven.

Hi Urnes
I recently had a 4x5 or 9x12 in my hands. However, it was in too poor a condition overall.
The price, at €30, was actually quite good.
I wasn’t sure if I could get the camera back into working order.
Germany seems to have been completely cleared out of these cameras in my region.
Here in France, I see 4x5s much more often.
