Hello,
It’s great that this forum exists. After many years, I’m getting back into black-and-white darkroom work. I’d like to work with my wife’s Opemus 6. I’m missing the user manual for this unit. Is it available online as a PDF?
As I’d like to process medium format and 35mm film, I’m interested to know whether there are different condensers for the Opemus 6. If so, how can I tell the difference between the 35mm and medium format condensers?
Can anyone help me?
Regards,
Uwe

Hi Uwe,
What’s the point of the instruction manual? The up/down controls on the column are self-explanatory, as are the focuser and the red filter. Just use a 75 or 150 bulb and you’re done. Have I forgotten any controls on a condenser Opemus? Yes. Scheimpflug, if it’s capable of it.
Lens for 35mm: 50mm, tube pointing ‘into the enlarger’, for MF an 80mm with ‘tube pointing out’. That’s it. Scheimpflug correction is explained better in many photography books than in the manual, as is the use of multigrade filters. Tip: I never really liked the filter drawer; I removed the red filter and placed the filters on top of it.
There isn’t much to adjust on the 6x6, and that isn’t explained in the manual either. As far as I know, there aren’t different condensers; on my 5x6, the one with the MF condenser and 75mm bulb was already a bit too bright for MF and then perfectly suitable for 35mm. There are different mixing boxes only for colour heads, but the 6x6 box works for 35mm as well.
Any questions? Ask them here – you won’t get a quicker answer anywhere else.
Best regards,

Hi Franz,
Thanks for your detailed and prompt reply. This forum is brilliant :-).
By "tube", I’m sure you mean the slightly curved "lens plate". Right? If that’s the case, that answers my questions about the condenser and the optics. Thanks for the tip about the filter drawer.
Best regards, Uwe

Hi Uwe,
Yes. "Tubus" means "lens board".
