Hello everyone,
I was wondering if it’s possible to develop Minox colour film using the C41 process in the Minox daylight developing tank. Has anyone tried this before? Is the amount of chemical (just under 50 ml) sufficient, and can the temperature be kept sufficiently constant with such a small volume?
Regards,
Marwan
I’ve already done it. It works, but if I find myself in a similar situation later, I’ll probably get one of the modified Jobo reels.
The 50 ml is enough, at least with the Dilucolor kit I used. A Minox film like that has less than a quarter of the surface area of a 35 mm film. And that needs 140 ml in the 1510 Jobo. So 50 ml is more than enough.
The best way to maintain the temperature is probably to place the can up to the ‘neck’ in a water bath.
Moving the developer is trickier. You won’t get very far with the thermometer-pumping method for C41. I once found a tip on an internet forum to use a bit more developer and ‘pump’ it with a syringe; that works quite well. And if a bit of developer spills, it doesn’t matter – the can is in the water bath anyway ;)
Timing is another thing: the daylight tank takes ages to fill and empty; if I remember correctly, it’s about 30 seconds for the 50ml... You have to take that into account when developing.
