Hello, I’m picking up on a question from Christina in an older thread. Does anyone have any information and/or experience with ADOX Printfilm? Okay, it’s 25 ISO, but what’s the black film effect like? And which developer would you recommend? More hard or soft? Many thanks in advance. Bye Klaus

Bartman, Do you want to use the film as a recording medium or as it was originally intended? You don’t need to worry about the Schwarzschild factor for now – as it’s a film similar to photographic paper, it’s designed for longer exposure times. The film produces grey tones in standard paper developer. Best regards, Mirko

Hi Mirko, Yes, I want to use it as film for my pinhole cameras, which means the exposure times are bound to be veeeery long. So there won’t be any black shield effect even with exposures lasting several minutes? Bye Bartman aka Klaus

I can’t say for certain – you’d have to test it yourself. However, for exposures of up to one minute, the effect is negligible.

Hi Mirko, Just for comparison’s sake – since they’ve been on the market a bit longer and have already been tested – how does ADOX Print Film compare to Maco GF and GPF? Best regards, Martin

The ADOX print film is the one with the halftone values.

Just a really silly question: Unlike standard sheet films, print film doesn’t have a notch to mark the emulsion side. You can’t feel which side is the ‘film side’ either (especially as I don’t like fiddling around with the film)... Is there any trick for telling which side is the emulsion side?

Of course it’s there: keep your eyes on the road. This stuff is processed at the Duka when the lights are red (or something similar, at least), and you can see that the emulsion side is lighter. Regards Martin

I can smell it too, and if necessary, the emulsion side sticks to your tongue (though that might leave a mark on the photograph).

And does it taste of anything? Well, each to their own :D It’s a shame, I actually wanted to use it in the camera, and for that the things would have to go into the cassette in the changing bag. And I can’t get in there with either my nose or my tongue ;) Oh well, I’ll just have to use the stuff in the darkroom. Not a bad idea either.

Hi Christian, You could just make the notch yourself with a hole punch (at Duka), then it’ll work with the replacement bag later on too. Best regards, Martin
