Hello,
Filmotec in Wolfen manufactures a cinema film called "ORWO UN 54" in 16 mm and 35 mm (lengths 122 m and 305 m respectively), with a stated nominal sensitivity of 22 DIN.
Does this film, which, as far as I know, was also previously offered by ORWO for filmmakers, correspond to the former ORWO NP 22, or how do they differ, apart from the packaging?
In principle, I’ve been thinking that one could wind the film onto 35mm cassettes and then use it for photography; whether that would provide a supply lasting several years given the quantity is another matter.
Does any characteristic of the material preclude this intention, or are there any special considerations to bear in mind when processing it?
Many thanks
Roland

Roland,
Cinema film is much more labour-intensive to produce than standard 35mm film, as the perforation punch has to work much more precisely to prevent the film from ‘fluttering’ in the camera.
That’s why it’s very expensive.
If you’d like to order 700 metres of raw film from us for self-loading, we can certainly offer you a better price than any cinema film supplier.
Filmotec film is a new product and not the old NP22. It’s only called that because its main markets are in the East.
Best regards,
Mirko
PS We have a few rolls of Classic 200-metre film (200 ASA and 400 ASA) that are nearing their expiry date. If you’re interested, email me and I’ll give you a good price.
