Hi everyone,
I’ve finally developed the first two rolls of film and enlarged the first few photos.
The films turned out exactly as expected straight away, but I did notice one problem:
At the edges, at irregular intervals – on one roll only at the start –
there’s black discolouration along the outer edge, and I don’t know where it’s coming from. All light sources were switched off.
It doesn’t really matter, but surely that can’t be right?
Does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks for your replies.
Regards, Harald.

Whether that’s right or wrong, there’s certainly no malicious intent at play here.
Roll film? Loosely wound, especially towards the end of the roll, and a little light creeps in at the edge. Case open, case closed, film left lying around, a bit of time in the light, and there you have it. As long as it doesn’t spill into the frame, there’s no need to get worked up.
35mm? No more than the first two frames should be affected (even with a highly light-permeable base).

Hi
I regularly get spots on my Efke 50 / 120 rolls caused by a side light leak.
Strangely enough, this never happens with TMAX400, Delta100 and Neopan400.
I suspect the Efke is wound more loosely to begin with (which carries over when rewinding/performing exposure) or
the protective paper is quite a bit thinner, and that’s enough at the edge to allow light to enter from the side.
I’ve stopped worrying about it and now always put my films with exposure straight into
a sealed, light-tight Tupperware box. No more problems since then.

What sort of film was it?
35mm or roll film?
35mm films on clear polyester base can exhibit what is known as the ‘light-piping’ effect.
In this case, light shoots through the clear base like through a fibre optic cable and also escapes to the sides, extending well beyond frame 2.
We are currently issuing a specific warning about this in the catalogue for Lucky films because the test samples I exposed over the summer piped quite a bit.
The Maco IR should also only be loaded and unloaded in the dark.
Roll films: see above.
Best regards,
Mirko
