Well, you could easily be tempted to buy the roll films just for the packaging. :( Hey, Mirko, I was just joking. But the containers are brilliant, when I think about how the film always looks after a holiday, wrapped up in the residue of aluminium foil. Cheers, Sven.

Hi Mirko, I need to follow this up. I’ve just had another look at the ADOX website and saw that there’s apparently an ADOX FHM as well. At the moment I’m using Ilford’s 400 Delta. Is the FHM similar in that it’s a multilayer flat-crystal film? I’m not asking if there’s anything else behind it, I just want to know more about its properties. Is it also available in 400? And if so, at what price and in which formats? How does one go about getting hold of this in 4x5" and 9x12? Is the new ADX two-component developer tailored to your films? I’d like to ask: is it better to use ADX than A49? That’s more or less what was going through my mind as I was browsing the ADOX website... :( Regards, Sven.

We can produce these roll film containers very cheaply as mass-produced items because we only needed to have one injection mould made, as the lid is already ‘attached’. This also means they can be operated with just one hand, which is really handy when changing roll films on location. All ADOX roll films (CHS, CHM, etc.) will be supplied in these containers in future. This means no cardboard box. We were able to achieve this without affecting the price! The CHM series corresponds to the classic films from England, i.e. not the flat-crystal types. The FHM isn’t ready yet – but it probably won’t come from England. Flat-crystal sheet films: Extremely difficult to produce and… what’s the point? Flat crystals have undisputed advantages with small formats, but in my opinion their disadvantages outweigh the benefits with large formats. Who, pray tell, still has a grain problem with 4x5" or larger? Isn’t it better to focus on grey tones/tonal range and sharpness – in other words, the advantages of non-flat-crystal films? I’m naturally open to counter-proposals. One would like to know if customers think differently :( Best regards, Mirko

The roll films themselves, sealed in aluminium, have already been produced – only the tins are still missing. We will probably start selling them without the tins from February onwards. The expected delivery date for the tins is March.
