Hello,
Which solvents are safe to use on a negative?
A pack of photographic paper (from DM) got wet, and now some of the negatives have stuck to the paper like glue – when I tried to peel them off, tiny residues of paper remained stuck to the negatives.
Best regards & thanks for any tips,

Why not give water a go as a 'solvent'? :(

Hello,
I’d give water a go too. I’d start by soaking the negatives in a bowl for a few minutes and then carefully ‘rub’ the paper residue off with your fingers. You should also wet your hands thoroughly before handling the negatives, so that the skin becomes a bit ‘softer’. If your tap water is hard, I’d actually recommend using distilled water. Afterwards, briefly soak the negatives in a final rinse and then hang them up to dry.
Solvents certainly won’t give a better result than water. You just need to soak the paper residue properly.
Best regards,
Matthias

Thank you.
The residue actually washed off completely with water, leaving no trace.
