Hello everyone,
I’d like to make contrast masks for Ilfochrom prints. To make the filtering process a bit easier, I’d like to use a crystal-clear contrast mask.
My first attempt with MacoORT25c didn’t go too badly; the mask turned out quite well, though the clear roll film certainly lives up to its name (it’s impossible to get it flat, even after a week under pressure). Mounting it for exposure is also no easy task, as the film is proving to be really stubborn.
Which sheet films (ortho or Panchromatic) are uncoloured? Speed should be max. 100 ASA. There used to be Kodak Pan Masking Film, but that was so long ago it’s hardly true anymore.

Why not just use Maco ORT 25 as your sheet film?
Or, if you're looking for a cheaper option, we can supply an equivalent product in plain packaging.

Mirko, -
Thank you very much. The problem is the price of the smallest pack (€100 for 100 sheets). I’ve seen that
you offer FP4+ as sheet film in packs of 25 sheets. Is the film clear?
Another thing I’m not entirely clear about: does it matter that the masking film is orthochromatic
sensitised?

We stock orthochromatic 25 ASA sheet films, which we supply to order.
9x12 cm, 100 sheets approx. €10–12
The advantage: you can process them in the tray under red light.
Best regards,
Mirko
It’s called F05 or FN52
By the way, we still have two rolls of FN 52 for large-format displays if anyone is interested.

Hi Mirko,
Is it available in 13x18 as well?
Best regards,

Yes, of course, in all sizes.
But it’s not suitable for taking photos in the lab.
ORWO leftover stock, packed in attractive boxes.
This film is so brilliant and so hard-wearing that it simply can’t go off.

You can soften anything. Price? Around ASA? Are the boxes really that nice?

Speaking of soft-contact printing,
could this be used for contact printing processes such as cyanotype? And if so, what sizes do you offer beyond 13x18?
Regards, Sven.

Sven, Franz,
The film is supplied on rolls and can be delivered in any size.
Genius film is best suited for copying due to its smooth gradient, but of course you can develop the FO5 or NP52 to compensate and use them as well.
The boxes are OK, but not exactly attractive. I was just joking.
Best regards,
Mirko

Hi Mirko,
I’ve just got two questions left about the approximate speed and price... Oh right, you’d already mentioned 25 ASA.
I’d thought the same as you about the boxes :-)

... and perhaps the minimum order quantity as well. I reckon that if you’re going to the trouble of cutting the fabric to size, you’ll need a certain quantity before it’s worth it. Don’t you think?

Packs of 10 sheets are feasible.
You’ll need to bear in mind that these will be around €1.50–€2.50 more expensive than packs of 50 sheets (calculated per sheet, of course, and then adding the €2.50 back on per pack) due to the envelope, bag, etc.

Hi Mirko,
So, if I’ve done my maths right, that would come to 40x50cm at a price of €1.60–2.00 per sheet, plus €2.50 for the lovely box and the little bag... oh, not forgetting the interleaving paper :(
Great, could someone give me a tip on how to ‘soften’ the film or develop it to ‘balance’ it out? And I’ll have a think about whether I want 40x50 or if 30x40 would be enough.
Regards, Sven.
