Hi I’ve just developed my first film from my pinhole camera. It looks completely out of focus :P What could be causing this? It can’t be a shaky camera, as I’m using a sturdy tripod and a central shutter. Is it reflections, or is the metal sheet too thick (a quark lid)? I’m not sure. Does anyone have any advice??

Hmm, well, I don’t think a quark lid is too thick. I’ve even managed to take reasonably decent photos using cola cans. Did you sand the back of the lid to reduce reflections? Also, the hole should, of course, be as round as possible and free of burrs. And, naturally, small enough. Could it be out of focus because light is getting into the camera? It’s always hard to speculate when you can’t see the picture. How out of focus is it? Can you not make anything out, or is it just not as sharp as you’d like it to be? Regards, Sven.

So, first of all, "hello" – this is my first post... I've taken photos with a pinhole camera before, and I think your blurriness is perfectly normal. You need to realise that this impressionistic style is intentional with pinhole cameras. That's the pinhole feel!! :angry:

Hello! What film format did you shoot on? With 35mm, you should really only shoot in colour and enjoy the impressionistic colour gradients. If you want more sharpness, you can’t avoid medium format or larger. By the way, the metal from a tea light holder makes an excellent pinhole. Regards EAK
