Hello,
I need some advice:
I’d like to take some photos of a ballet performance on stage under artificial lighting this weekend, so I’ll need a high-speed film. As a developer, I’d like to use either Rodinal or A49 (as I have them to hand).
Any recommendations (film, exposure and development)?
Many thanks,
Andreas

Hello Andreas,
The Fuji Neopan duo: 400 and 1600, each exposed at their rated sensitivity.
In A 49 1 + 1 at 20 °C, continuously for the first minute and then once every minute.
Exposure times: Neopan 400: 12.5 mins, Neopan 1600: 10 mins.
If the light allows, go for the 400, as the 1600 gets quite steep – though it might look nice for ballet too.
Best regards,
Robert

If there’s enough light, I’d also recommend Neopan 400 (perhaps at ISO 800) or Neopan 1600 (at around ISO 1000 to a maximum of 1600, but definitely not higher); in low light, however, I also find the TMax 3200 in A49 quite nice (from ISO 1000 to 3200), albeit a bit more artistic; when developing, I always followed the data table here at FOTOIMPEX, specifically using the higher extension factors listed due to the soft light from my colour enlarger.
