Robert,
In the ‘Competition’ thread, you mentioned that ACROS is your favourite film when it comes to Schwarzschild behaviour.
I’m curious to know whether you’ve ever made a reference to an Efke 100 compared to an ACROS in terms of Schwarzschild behaviour, and what the differences were.
Best regards,
Mirko

Hi Mirko,
Unfortunately not – after seeing the results from the Efke PL 100 in 4x5", I was actually planning to try the Efke 100 as a 35mm film, until someone told me that the two films aren’t really comparable in terms of results (apart from the format, of course :) ). If that’s the case, why? If not, I’d be happy to give it a go – as soon as I get the chance to order it along with something else (it’s not really worth sending just two films on their own!)
Best regards,
Robert

Hello Robert,
The reason for my question was that the excellent Schwarzschild factor of Efke is down to the fact that it is a single-layer film. This is also what gives it its advantage in terms of sharpness. As far as I know, ACROS is constructed in the same way – please correct me if I’m wrong – so both films should behave very similarly in terms of the Schwarzschild factor.
Difference between roll and sheet films: Roll and sheet films are usually cast onto the same base with additional antihalation protection beneath the emulsion (i.e. between the base and the emulsion) and a matt back.
With sheet films, the base itself is usually coloured to ensure antihalation protection.
That’s why roll and sheet films are usually very similar, whilst the sheet film is slightly different.
BUT OF COURSE THE SAME EMULSION IS USED ON BOTH!
The only exception I’m aware of: Fortepan 400. Recently, the sheet film version has used English material, whilst the roll film version uses the original Forte.
But that doesn’t apply to Classicpan!
Here, black-and-white film is the same as roll film and better than the OLD Fortepan (because it’s a new development).
Regards
Mirko

Hi Mirko,
I’d also been wondering about the different properties :) . I’ll order a few with my next order.
Best regards,
Robert
