Hi there!
Luckily, I own a Meopta Axomat 5. As I’d also like to work with medium format, I’m wondering – and now asking you – whether I can use the Axomat for that.
In other words: can I file down the negative stage on the Axomat, as is possible with other Meoptas, or not?
So far, I’ve found various details and heard differing opinions – in short: conflicting information. What do the experts say?

Hello "dpc",
Of course, you can file down the stage on the Axomat to create black image circles around your 35mm enlargements, for example.
But it won’t work for anything larger than 4.5×6 or even bigger. There are two reasons for this: Firstly, the image circle of your 50mm lens is too small for medium-format negatives. Secondly, the condenser in the enlarger is only designed to illuminate a 35mm negative.
In short, don’t bother – it won’t work. You’re better off spending a few euros on a second-hand Opemus. That can handle 35mm and 6x6; you can then sell your Axomat on.
Best regards,
Franz

Exactly!
Just one more thing: the other Meoptas aren’t ‘refurbished’; instead, you take out the KB inserts and put medium-format inserts in.
That’s always a good indicator of whether it’s worth it or not...

Go on, have a laugh – but right, now I finally understand that ‘full-frame’ refers to the entire width of the negative. Besides, I have to admit that if you read the catalogue without my false hopes in mind, the difference between 35mm and medium-format enlargers really does become clear. So, I’ll take the blame, etc...
Thanks for the prompt reply!
