In the FOTOIMPEX catalogue, F09 was listed as equivalent to Rodinal.
However, the recommended dilutions are 1+40 to 1+200, whereas Rodinal recommends 1+25 to 1+50.
So aren’t the two products quite similar after all?
Does F09 at 1+40 work like Rodinal at 1+25?
Thanks,
Jacques

Jacques,
Rodinal and F09 are not identical. We do not claim that they are.
F09 is based on the original Rodinal formula from 1918 (after the war, the Russians ‘stole’ the patents from Agfa).
Agfa’s Rodinal was further developed several times after the war and adapted to the requirements of modern emulations.
Consequently, F09 is an ideal developer for the materials for which it was designed (photographic plates, sheet films, classic emulsions such as efke and Classicpan 200). Rodinal is better suited to Agfa and Foma films (modern emulsions).
F09 accentuates grain and produces a halo effect to a greater extent than Rodinal, whilst also being gentler (though the differences are minor).
Agfa has also made changes to the concentration and bottling process – for example, Agfa bottles under nitrogen, which is why Rodinal is initially clear and turns brown later on.
To convert Agfa development times to F09 or vice versa, simply use 1+40 for F09 = 1+50 for Rodinal.

Hello, I develop Classicpan 200 in Rodinal 1+100 for 20 minutes.
How many minutes should I develop it for with F09 1+100?
