What could be more fitting than "Prussian Blue" cyanotypes in Berlin? For the first time ever, to celebrate this rare pigment, the
Central Valley Project is offering a cyanotype workshop! “Prussian Blue” in German, or “Berliner Blau”, is a colour that almost never occurs naturally (bird feathers don’t count; their blue iridescence is due to optical physics, not pigmentation), first created synthetically in 1706 by a Swiss immigrant in Berlin. As a photographic medium, Anna Atkins, often considered to be the first recognised female photographer, used the process in the 19th century to create photogram images of plants.
