Hi Mirko,
I can’t seem to find the thread where you gave me the tip to simply flip the pressure springs in my Magnifax 3. I just wanted to say thanks again – it worked a treat. The head runs really smoothly again and doesn’t ‘loll about’ anymore. I’d imagined the inner workings of the thing to be much more complicated.

Hi Sven,
That’s the great thing about Czech instruments: no over-engineering, just simple, repair-friendly technology. If need be, you can fix them with a metal file and a block of steel.
I carried out the same ‘repair’ on my Opemus a while back and, whilst I was at it, converted it for left-handed use. Another advantage of these things: practically all the knobs work the same way round on the left. Have a go at that with a Durst :-)
Best regards,
Franz

Hi Franz,
You’re right, I was just put off by the thought of having to screw anything together. You know, the idea of ending up with thousands of bits and pieces that you can’t put back together again. I usually use old Leitz Focomats for KB, the ones with mechanical AF, and with those everything’s out in the open. I’m always happy when mechanics can be really simple. :-)))
