Hallo! Fomabrom festgraduiert auf einer alte DDR-Presse von Fotocalvano Leipzig heißt trocknen, funktioniert das? Danke für Eure Meinung. Mario

Hello, yes, that works: the paper will dry. However, it will also curl, and if you dry it with the coated side facing the cloth, the fibres of the cloth will become embedded in the soft surface of the paper. The country of manufacture and the manufacturer are irrelevant in this case.

Well, it works really well with the matte paper. Place the coated side against the cloth and turn the temperature down quite a bit – it should be lukewarm, not too hot. Then leave it to dry slowly. Afterwards, place the prints – whilst still warm – under a flat weight overnight (okay, I use two Corean sheets for this, but two wooden boards with bricks or marble slabs will do just as well). Depending on the storage, the prints may still curl slightly in one direction, but once they’re framed, this won’t be an issue. Regards, Sven.

A data sheet for the current Fomabrom is available here: http://www.foma.cz/en/fomabrom Heat drying in a drying press is not recommended. At normal temperatures, the emulsion sticks to the cloth, and at a maximum of 35 degrees, it takes quite a long time. The best method is to pre-dry with the press open (emulsion on top, max. 85 degrees) and then air-dry using drying screens (emulsion on the bottom, frames with fly wire – the classic method, really).
