Hello,
I’m finally going to order some developer again to process a few rolls of film I’ve got lying around. I’ve got some Fomapan 100 and Ilford Delta 100. I’ll be adding a few more Fomapan rolls soon. I use it as an affordable all-round film. I don’t yet have a trained enough eye to spot major differences between the films. That said, the enthusiastic comments about Efke are tempting me to give it a go.
So my question is: is there a developer that works well with Foma and Ilford, and which might also develop Efke really well? I don’t want to buy too many different developers, as they’ll go off before I can use them all up. I reckon I’ll be developing about 10–15 films over the next three months.
Best regards and thanks,
Michael

Hello Michael,
I can recommend the Calbe A 49 in a 1:1 ratio. It balances things out well without making everything look muddy, is affordable, long-lasting and relatively easy to use (though not quite as easy as liquid developer). You can find processing times for a wide variety of films on our host’s website or at www.calbe-fotochemie.com (there’s also a PDF data sheet).
Best regards,

I think rherz is right. The A49 is well suited to all the films mentioned. However, for low-speed EFK films, I prefer the F09/R09. At a higher dilution (1:100), the grain remains manageable, but the grey tones improve.

For me, the A 49 is THE ultimate all-round developer.
Affordable, long-lasting and a joy to use – it really brings out the best in the Emu, maximising its full speed range.
If you want to extract every last detail regarding sheep and resolution from a negative,
it’s only surpassed by the MZB.
For portraits, the A is absolutely brilliant.
