Hello!
Maybe one of you knows the answer :) So, I recently bought a second-hand Meopta Axomat 5 enlarger. I’d read beforehand that the standard version doesn’t come with a filter drawer for multigrade filters, so I ordered this drawer from FOTOIMPEX
just in case.
Now I’ve unpacked the enlarger and noticed that there’s a ‘drawer for correction filters or a focusing screen’, and now I’m not sure whether ‘correction filters’ refers to MG filters.
Or whether I can use this filter drawer for my MG filters. Visually, the two drawers
look similar, except that the one that came with the enlarger has a glass insert inside....
Does anyone know the answer?
Regards,
dir?

Hello,
The existing drawer is for correction filters or MG filters.

Thanks for the reply  I would have been really surprised if it hadn't been the 'same' category...

Hello there,
and the glass plate that came with it also serves a purpose: it’s a diffuser designed to make the light from your enlarger ‘softer’.
Negatives are usually developed to suit the enlarger: condenser enlargers and diffuser enlargers require different levels of contrast. This can be compensated for to some extent with the diffuser plate, so that negatives originally developed for diffusers can also be enlarged on a condenser enlarger (such as your Axomat). What’s more, with softer light, you don’t notice every little speck of dust as much.
When handling the filter sheets, you should wear cotton gloves; you don’t want them covered in fingerprints.
Best regards,
Franz

Thanks so much for that detailed reply. Now I know what it’s all about – I’d actually assumed it was a matte screen I could use to ‘monitor’ the sheep…
Good to know what this screen is actually for
