Hello everyone, I’ve now had my first go at developing film. But there’s one thing that’s still on my mind: what’s the gentlest and safest way to dry my film? Can a squeegee scratch the film? I reckon the Efke 25 is particularly sensitive in that regard... Chamois leather? What’s the verdict on that? Fingers? In my experience, that’s not enough... Distilled water? I still got slight spots (without wiping)... So what’s the answer? Could anyone give me some practical advice? Regards, Pepe

Hi Pepe, Try using a wetting agent and distilled water, then add 0.3 ml of Tetenal Mirasol 2000 to 250 ml of water. Agitating for one minute with 15-second tilts should sort out your problems. Afterwards, give the film a good shake in the spiral – it works well over the bath ;-). I process my black-and-white transparencies this way, and after this seemingly endless procedure, they’re definitely faster than a normal black-and-white film. As for the Efke 25, it really is a bit of a delicate one. Best regards, Robert

Thanks to Franz and Robert, I’ll give that a go with the wetting agent and the (salad) spinner. - Do you actually pour away the developed water with the wetting agent after every film, or do you process several films in one batch? Best regards, Pepe

Hi Pepe, I’ve started using Citrodur (a hardening stop bath from Maco) for repronegatives. Once I’d got it, I gave it a go on the Effke as well, and it works fine. I reckon it’s actually become a bit more robust. Best regards Martin

Hi Pepe, I’ve had good results with the following procedure: 1 Soak for 1 minute in the final rinse water with wetting agent 2 Spin the film in a salad spinner. For better balance, spin an extra roll of film in the spinner at the same time. 3 Then leave it to hang to dry Good luck Japiek

1) Soak for about 1 minute in the final rinse water with wetting agent (use the minimum dosage); if the water is very hard, use demineralised water instead. 2a) Spinning the film in a salad spinner works quite well. 2b) A film scraper also works, provided it is absolutely clean; otherwise, it may cause scratches. Pre-wet the scraper and scrape only once. 3) Leave the film to hang undisturbed with a weight in a dust-free room. Do not use a hairdryer or similar.
