I’m interested in trying out Fomapan or Classic films, Classic chemicals and Classic papers. At the moment, I’m working with the following materials:
Films:
Ilford HP5
Fuji Superia 400
Chemicals:
Ilford ID11
Ilford Rapid Fix
Paper:
Ilford Multigrade PR Warm Tone
Ilford Multigrade Baryta
Can anyone help me find equivalent Fomapan or Classic materials?
Many thanks,
Baerbel

Baerbel,
It would be best if you could give us a call on Monday.
I’m not sure why you’re currently working with the materials you’ve described (i.e. what exactly you like about them and what you don’t).
We do, of course, have alternative products that are similar to the ones you’ve mentioned, but we may also have other products that suit your tastes even better.
Examples of such equivalents are:
Classic Polywarmtone PE similar to Ilford Warmtone Multikontrast
MACO UP 400 very similar to Ilford HP5; otherwise, Classicpan 400 rather than Fomapan (Foma has a fine grain and isn’t as strong in the negative).
Fix is almost always the same
With baryta, I’d need to know whether you want a cool tone (= Polykalt) or a warm tone (= Polywarm)
ID11 = D76, but you might want to try a more modern developer (e.g. A49, our insider tip).
As I said, it’s best to give us a call and briefly describe what you expect from your film, and we’ll find something suitable. All the Classics and Fomas are cheaper anyway.
Best regards,
Mirko
