Hello,
Having read Paufina’s article,
I’m now feeling a bit unsure and need to
check with you experts again.
What speed should both be exposed at, and which developer (well,
one always hopes for an almost unrivalled dream result
— beautiful grey tones, high sharpness, good shadow detail
etc.) can you recommend as a standard developer
— one where you simply can’t go wrong to begin with?
Many thanks in advance for your advice

Hello Kornelia
I expose the 400 film at ISO 320 and the T200 at ISO 160. When metering the exposure, I consistently aim for the shadows, which gives me consistent detail throughout the negative.
Well... the standard developer – I reckon you’re asking where you can buy the ‘jack-of-all-trades’...? FOTOIMPEX does stock quite a few exotic products, but I don’t think they have that one either.
...Joking aside, give the A49 a go: 1:2 dilution, 17 minutes with agitation. The developer
is quite forgiving – no ‘super-tech, new-fangled nonsense’ – and delivers fine grain, lovely grey tones, with a good impression of sharpness! (You can’t have everything, after all.) The A49 is a two-component powder developer that you have to mix yourself; if you stick to the instructions, not much can go wrong.
If you have any questions about it... just ask!
Regards
Michael
