: Hello,
I have a whole load of old, frozen Agfa APX 100 roll films. Some of them have already been exposed, so now it’s time for development. I’d like to develop them using Acurol N or ADOX Silvermax developer.
I think I’ve heard that the old APX 100 is essentially an ADOX Silvermax film. If that’s true, could I simply use the development times for the Silvermax? Can anyone confirm this?
Alternatively: Does anyone have any good developer-time combinations for the old APX 100?
Thanks!
Hello John,
Although the two films are similar in certain respects, they are not entirely identical. The spectral sensitisation is very similar, but the ADOX Silvermax has an emulsion with a significantly higher silver content. It is also cast onto a clear triacetate base, unlike the earlier APX 100. We would advise against a 1:1 transfer of any film developers' times from the APX 100 to the ADOX Silvermax and vice versa. This is particularly true when using very old films, as age can also affect development times (depending on storage conditions).
