I’ve heard rumours that the Scala 160 is no longer being manufactured. It’s out of stock at quite a few retailers – at fotoimpex, it’s currently only available for delivery. Does anyone know the latest on the future of the Scala 160? Thanks and best regards, Andreas

Hello Andreas, Unfortunately, that’s the case. The Adox Scala is due to be discontinued in the near future. This might be your chance to stock up on the film. I don’t think you’ll ever be able to buy such high-quality film at such a reasonable price again. Best regards, Klaus

Hi Klaus, Thanks for the info – that’s a real shame. Does this also spell the end for the Silvermax, which is, after all, identical to the Scala 160? It’s also a shame that, despite all the admirable work being done by Adox/Fotoimpex, availability – particularly of Adox films – is somehow rather uncertain. Best regards, Andreas

Hi Andreas, Yes, that really is a shame! The background to this is that Fotoimpex was able to use raw materials in its production that originated from Agfa’s bankruptcy estate. These very high-quality raw materials are no longer available today. The prices for them would also no longer be affordable. Fortunately, however, the film is still available. This applies to both the Scala 160 and the Silvermax. And finally, the Adox CHS 100 II is also available again as 35mm film. Even if one door closes here, new doors open elsewhere. Hello Andreas, From the moment it was launched, ADOX had stated that the ADOX Silvermax / SCALA 160 represented a large, one-off production run. It is based on original Agfa technology and raw materials that are no longer available in their previous form. A new production run of exactly this film with absolutely identical parameters is therefore neither technically nor economically feasible. However, the ADOX CHS 100 II comes very close to the Silvermax: 1. The spectral sensitisation is almost identical. 2. Sharpness and resolution are at a comparable level. 3. The maximum dynamic range is very similar. 4. It can also be processed as a reversal film. Best regards

Hello Adox team, Thank you very much for the helpful information. I wasn’t aware that it was a one-off production – my apologies. In future, I’ll focus on developing CHS 100 II as a black-and-white film. In the past, I’ve only processed it as 9x12 flat film. Thanks and best regards, Andreas
