The CHS 100 II is the first roll film to become available again.
After two years of intensive refurbishment work on the roll film machines, one machine is now running reliably again, enabling us to re-enter the market – initially with a single type of film.
Naturally, this raises a lot of questions, as I can well imagine.
1) We are, of course, trying to offer further film types as roll film as well, but to do so we need, in addition to the roll film machine currently in operation, a slitter that cuts perfectly. So that is the next milestone.
2) The plastic tins are a stopgap measure, as the ‘Bonboniere’ (machine for heat-sealing film into sachets) and the box-erecting machine are not yet operational. As soon as this problem is resolved, we will switch to proper boxes.
3) In the medium term, we need to produce new protective paper, as the manufacturer has retired. Until then, we’ll be working from stock. That’s one reason why we can’t rewind roll film for third parties. Another reason is the machine’s continued high level of unpredictability. We would almost certainly end up making a loss if we were to accept such an order.
All in all, however, this is a major milestone for ADOX and it also gives a little insight into the high hurdles we are facing here. Two men, two years, just to partially refurbish a single machine out of hundreds.
Let’s hope that the three of them (the two men and the machine) can make it through the final stretch and that it becomes reliable.
:collision: But for today, let’s pop the champagne corks ;-)
